From jazzy classics to hard core EDM to pop rock beats and to full heartbreaking lyrics, 2014 might be the year where many great albums were released! So as I narrow it down, here are my top 10 favorite and most listened albums of 2014.
10. Talk Dirty by Jason Derulo
Top Fave Tracks: "The Other Side","Marry Me","Trumpets","Vertigo" and "Talk Dirty".
9. All This Bad Blood by Bastille
So I have a new favorite indie-rock/indie-pop band this year! And it's Bastille!!! YAY!!! With their lead singer's (Dan Smith) supper dreamy and unique voice, track after track my hands starts clapping or swaying up in the air. With their biggest hit, "Pompeii", the band really did great this year and I couldn't get enough with their "Good" Bloody album!
8. 1989 by Taylor Swift
So yes, I am not a "Swiftie" nor just an average Taylor Swift fan, but after I listened to her newest and fastest selling album, I was amazed! From the first 10 tracks of the album, the lyrics immediately stuck in my head. "Shake it Off" is clearly an example of a song which is annoying to listen to, but when I hear it everywhere, I kinda did "shake" it off. With Tay-tay's first pop album, it is really a success!
Top Fave Tracks: "I Know Places", "Style", "Welcome to New York", "All You Had to Do Was Stay","Blank Space", and "Out of the Woods".
7. RECLASSIFIED by Iggy Azalea
First of all, I am so happy that Iggy did a re-pack of her debut album "The New Classic" and added new 6 songs and maintained her hits like "Black Widow" featuring Rita Ora, "Work", "Bounce" and the 2014 anthem "Fancy" featuring Charli XCX. And I am also in love with Iggy's collaboration with this album! From T.I. to Jennifer Hudson to Ellie Goulding! With Iggy rapping verse after verse of non-stop madness, this is for sure one of my fave Hip-Hop album.
6. Forget the World by Afrojack
"It's basically a message not just to my fans, but also to myself, to always remember to keep following your heart, keep following your path, and never try to let the things around you get you down." as what Afrojack said about the title of the album. In fact, I couldn't agree more! You can really forget the world while putting on your headphones and dance and scream out the lyrics of this genuinely produced EDM album!
Top Fave Tracks: "As Your Friend", "Illuminate","Ten Feet Tall" ,"The Spark","We'll Be OK" ,"Faded","Do Or Die (Remix)" and "Sovereign Light Café (Afrojack Remix)" (vs. Keane).
NOW MY TOP 5!!! Hahahaha!!!
5. V by Maroon 5 (Get the irony? Haha)
I would like to give the band a round of applause for producing another wonderful album after "Overexposed". I just can't stop listening to it, especially with Adam Levine's high pitch voice in "Animals" and the soulful ballad "Lost Stars" which was also featured in the movie Begin Again. So yes, I will absolutely give them 5 stars for V.
Top Fave Tracks: "Maps", "Animals", "It Was Always You" , "In Your Pocket", "New Love", "Feelings" and "Lost Stars".
4. Cheek to Cheek
by Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga
As a Little Monster, I will support Lady Gaga no matter what! And when I heard she has a Jazz record with the one and only jazz legend Tony Bennett, I was thrilled to listen to it! Not only that, Gaga made me and also a lot of young people in the world love jazz in a new level. Gaga's voice is such clarity and with this album, she clearly showed the whole world that this bitch can sing any genre in the field of music. So I bow down to the two legends of music and was so happy that this album was nominated for a Grammy!
Top Fave Tracks: "Anything Goes", "I Can't Give You Anything but Love", "Cheek to Cheek", "It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)", "Firefly", "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)" (live from Jazz at Lincoln Center) and "I Won't Dance".
3. Queen of the Clouds by Tove Lo
The debut album of the Swedish singer Tove Lo is just lyrically genius and the whole album talks about relationship, including passion, love and break-ups. Queen of the Clouds is really an electropop album, which blends multiple styles of music into a "monogenre" sound. It contains heavy influences of EDM, hip hop, dance-pop, new wave, rock, and R&B which makes me like it more and made it as my top 3. I couldn't get enough of this album really, especially the slutty track "Talking Body" and the infamous "Habits (Stay High)". (Some sentences were taken from Wikipedia)
Top Fave Tracks: "Talking Body", "Habits (Stay High)", "Timebomb", "Moments", "Not on Drugs", "Thousand Miles" and "Love Ballad".
2. My Everything by Ariana Grande
With her deubt album "Yours Truly", I didn't really admired Ari so much, but when she released her second LP, I adore her even more! With her vocals and sexiness in every track, she did an amazing job with this one yet! From the ballads "My Everything", the Harry Styles penned "Just a Little Bit of Your Heart" and even the "Into" makes the album special. And I am in love with the Zedd produced dance track "Break Free". My Everything deserves the Grammy nod for Best Pop Vocal Album at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards and my bet is non other than this album!
Top Fave Tracks: "Problem" (featuring Iggy Azalea), "One Last Time", "Why Try", "Break Free" (featuring Zedd), "Best Mistake" (featuring Big Sean), "Be My Baby" (featuring Cashmere Cat), "Break Your Heart Right Back" (featuring Childish Gambino), "Love Me Harder" (with The Weeknd), "Bang Bang" (with Jessie J and Nicki Minaj), "My Everything" and "Just a Little Bit of Your Heart".
........ and my Number 1 album of 2014 is non other than.............
1. In the Lonely Hour by Sam Smith
With 6 Grammy nominations, Sam surely deserves it and I hope he isn't lonely anymore after the critical success of his debut album. The album includes the hit singles "Money on My Mind" and "Stay with Me" which gained huge buzz worldwide and also Naughty Boy's "La La La" and an acoustic version of Disclosure's single "Latch". I think I found another idol when it comes to the music industry and Sam's angelic voice just makes the album's misery into an absolute ear worm pleasure. So yeah, I can listen to this album till the day I die.
Top Fave Tracks: "Money on My Mind","I'm Not the Only One", "La La La", "Leave Your Lover","I've Told You Now", "Like I Can", "Latch" (acoustic), "Life Support", "Lay Me Down", "Restart", "Reminds Me of You" and "Stay with Me"
