The dance floor master is back to dominate the charts, break the dance floor and electrify listeners as they listen to LISTEN! After the smash hit of his last album, Nothing But the Beat and his re-pack edition of Nothing but the Beat 2.0, the french DJ is back with a follow up blazing album!
David Guetta released his most awaited sixth full length album Listen last November 21,2014.Teaming up again with Sia,Nicki Minaj, Daddy's Grove, Afrojackand Showtek for sure you guys want to hear the album as well as I do. Not only that, Guetta collaborates with artists such as Emile Sande, The Script, Bebe Rexha, Ryan Tedder, Nico and Vinz, Magic!, John Legend and many more! I know,I know, you might ask "Did they really collaborate?" or "Are you for real?", well yes people and the songs David made with them are phenomenal!
Here is my Track by Track Review of LISTEN:
Track 1: DANGEROUS ft. Sam Martin
Well, I hate to say it to you guys, but this is my least favorite song in the album. Even the music video doesn't do justice for me even though it was directed by Jonas Akerlund (also the director of Lady Gaga's Paparazzi and Telephone video). I don't know, it just seems boring, but the chorus is nice, but still weak for me.
Track 2: WHAT I DID FOR LOVE ft. Emeli Sande
This song is like a sweet escape track and has a very powerful choir chorus. The R&B vibe and dance music suits perfectly together with Emeli's voice.
Track 3: NO MONEY NO LOVE (with Showtek featuring Elliphant and Ms. Dynamite)
Now this is like my anthem in life! (LOL,just kidding) With reggae feels, this is an absolute club banger. I can see this being played in a club or at beach parties. With their last collab in "Bad", Guetta and Showtek produced another sick track on its way to a hospital!
Track 4: LOVERS ON THE SUN (featuring Sam Martin)
With western influences and heavy bass beat, this is my fave track from Guetta and Martin. The voice of Sam with this song is incredible, especially the chorus with that high note and all! For sure cowboys and cowgirls will go wild and loud when this song is being played, especially in a hot summer day. And this time I kinda like the music video, where it also stars Ray Liotta and of course, it's about cowboys, but I kinda find it funny though.
Track 5: GOODBYE FRIEND (featuring The Script)
Favorite DJ and favorite band in a collaboration, how awesome is that?! I really did not expect this collab, well until now because it's real! The track is perfect, I won't add any more. But this track kinda reminds me of "I Can Only Imagine".
Track 6: LIFT ME UP (featuring Nico & Vinz and Ladysmith Black Mambazo)
This song is so good that it could be played at any party. Guetta collaborated with the hit duo who sang "Am I Wrong" and made a feel good track about lifting yourself up and not being down. With intense "Oh! Oh! Oh! Ah! Ah! Ah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!" chants you would totally enjoy your time listening to this track.
Track 7: "Listen" (featuring John Legend)
David Guetta is pure genius! First, by collaborating with John Legend. Second, He made a great which has a catchy and dance worthy chorus. Third, the album title is perfect because this is what the song sounds like. R&B and EDM go to full clash once again and this song would be a hit if Guetta will make this as a single soon.
Track 8: "Bang My Head" (featuring Sia)
After the smash hit of "Titanium" all over the world and the follow up track "She Wolf", they are both back with another Bang! I know the title will make your eyes roll over but the lyrics are so deep that you forget that it's a serious song but with dance beats. Sia is always so clever when writing her music. This could be also a possible single,no scratch that, it needs to be a single!!!
Track 9: "Yesterday" (featuring Bebe Rexha)
Yes, Bebe Rexha is the one singing the EDM duo,Cash Cash's track "Take Me Home" and with another EDM superstar, her voice is back in the business. With dramatic intros and pronunciation, this song is the shit! With string instruments and electric beats, this is perfect for a ball! And the orchestral exit of the song is brilliant!
Track 10: "Hey Mama" (featuring Nicki Minaj and Afrojack)
Now this is also a club banger! I can feel that this will be played at summer parties soon. With Afrojack assisting the track and with Minajesty is back with more rap and attitude, not like the over auto tuned "Turn Me On", where fans only heard Nicki rapping for like 6 seconds. But with this, you can hear how pure her voice is and with much more energy.
Track 11: "Sun Goes Down" (with Showtek featuring Magic! and Sonny Wilson)
Guetta mixes his magic with Magic! and Sonny Wilson and it turns into absolute MAGIC! This track is like it was made in Brazil or Jamaica. The verses makes your head want to sway from left and right, but when it comes to the chorus, you just want to shake your whole body and work it!
Track 12: "S.T.O.P." (featuring Ryan Tedder)
I don't really know what the meaning of S.T.O.P, but with Ryan Tedder writing and singing a song then it's gotta be good! And it is! "I'll stop right now/ But I'm stopping with you" sings Tedder in the chorus and with piano and synthesizing beats to accompany with it.
Track 13: "I'll Keep Loving You" (featuring Jaymes Young and Birdy)
A household name of EDM and an indie artist collaborates! I heard Birdy since then and her songs are mostly ballad and love songs. On the other hand, I really don't know who Jaymes Young is but when I listen to this love ballad/dance track, I am just amazed! This song is so great, it could be perfect if this was a soundtrack of a movie or something.
Track 14: "The Whisperer" (featuring Sia)
The last track of the standard edition features Sia once again, but with more of a stripped down track.
I'm kinda disappointed that the last track is a ballad but I realized he started with a weak intro (Dangerous, to be exact) and ended it with a slow track too. But Sia's voice is so powerful and I can't say that I hate this track and it is also genuinely written.
Top Favorite Songs: Lift Me Up, Listen, Bang My Head, I'll Keep Loving You & Hey Mama
Possible Singles: Listen, Goodbye Friend, Bang My Head, What I Did For Love & Hey Mama
